Hideo Tanai is an idea-shaper and visionary interpreter of his many clients who have spanned the globe and believes in the simplicity of manifesting his clients’ aesthetic into architectural and design creations. Hideo’s desire to bring visions to life began in a professional capacity when he received his Master of Architecture at the prestigious Cornell University in upstate New York. Born in Japan, Hideo is naturally influenced by the simplicity of design. Still, his experience in working across the world – from New York to Rome, Japan to Carmel, and Napa Valley to Montana – has broadened his ambition to create functional and beautiful spaces that suit his clients’ varied lifestyles.

Our Process

Consultation

We'll start with a 60 minute consultation so we can learn more about the scope of your project and discuss your design needs. We'll also review our process and pricing so you know exactly what to expect. If you like what you hear, we'll schedule a home tour.

Home Tour

Next, we'll do a walk-through of your home or business to get a better idea of your style and vision for the space. We'll take measurements and take some photos to help us understand the space, lighting and other elements that should be considered in the design plan.

Design Plan

We'll put together a custom design plan and vision board that includes furniture, artwork, lighting, window treatments, and paint colors, all carefully curated to fit your individual style and budget. If there is anything you don't love, we'll happily find a substitution.

The Reveal

Once the design has been finalized and all of the products have been purchased and delivered to your home, our experts will oversee the installation and placement process. We'll be on-hand to answer any questions and add any final touches to the design.

WHY SHOULD I HIRE AN INTERIOR DESIGNER ?

An educated interior designer has the skills to not only provide stylish decor, but to create strategic plans for a specific space. This can include consultation in reconfiguring an existing interior, adding square footage to a home, and the development of lighting and electrical plans.

HOW DO WE GET STARTED ?

Typically, our introductory communication is a brief phone conversation to determine if collaboration is in the best interest of both parties. After filling out a style questionnaire, we’ll schedule an initial in-home consultation to gauge the scope of the project, as well as finalize the details of the design agreement.

HOW DO YOU CHARGE FOR YOUR SERVICES ?

Atelier Tanai maintains industry competitive design fees, billed at either our designers’ hourly rate or as a single flat fee. Hourly billing means you are charged an hourly fee for the time it takes to complete your project. A Flat Fee arrangement means you are billed one flat fee for the design, execution, and completion of the job. These fees do not include commission mark-ups on final product costs, which in most cases are lower when compared to retail pricing.

IS ANY PROJECT TOO SMALL ?

Traditionally, a 20-hour minimum is required for any client’s first design project..

AM I EXPECTED TO FIND MY OWN CONTRACTORS ?

We maintain excellent relationships with some of the industry’s most talented professionals and are able to offer services for any interior design project. If you prefer to work with your own contractors, we are also open to collaborating with new friends as well!

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I EXPECT COMMUNICATION WITH YOU ?

Weekly check-ins can be expected in order to provide status updates on your project, or to schedule appointments as needed through-out the process.
